How this calculator works

This tool estimates your total daily water needs using your body weight and then adjusts for activity level, climate, and extra needs (such as pregnancy or breastfeeding). It assumes that around 20% of the water you use in a day comes from food and 80% from drinks, which is typical in many diets.

The result is a reasonable starting point for most healthy adults, but not a medical recommendation. Always follow your doctor’s advice if you have heart, kidney, or other medical conditions that affect fluid balance.

Quick tips
  • Use your thirst and urine color as sanity checks – very dark urine or rarely needing to pee can signal you need more fluids.
  • On very hot days or long workouts, drink extra beyond what this calculator suggests.
  • If a doctor has told you to restrict fluids, follow that guidance instead of any online calculator.
